10 Freta Street. The St. Jack church.
The church was built in the years 1603-1639, thanks to the Warsaw townsmen foundation.
During the Warsaw Uprising 1944 the church was transformed into an insurgent hospital. In its monastery colonel Karol Ziemski a.k.a. "Wachnowski", the commander of Troop "Północ" that was defending the Old Town, lived here. On August 27, 1944 the church was bombed. Consequently, in its basement c. 1000 wounded people and inhabitants hiding here lost their lives.
The church was rebuilt after the war, i.e. in the years 1947-1959.
On the church wall there is a plaque commemorating the fallen soldiers of the Home Army battalion "Chrobry I".
